Set up by the Swedish government and spearheaded by Visit Sweden, Swedish Design Moves is a four-year initiative set up to share the country’s creative innovation in architecture, fashion and design around the globe. Developed to explore the interrelationships between national culture and design, social progressivism and collaborative problem-solving, the programme held its debut exhibition at Stockholm Design Week in February 2017. During London Design Festival, 21–24 September, it arrived in London Design Fair’s Swedish Design Pavilion, presenting a selection of 11 designers and studios based in and around Malmö – now established as one of the country’s premier design hubs. As well as showcasing the craftsmanship, forward-thinking vision and boundary-pushing creativity in furniture, lighting, print design and interior objects, the exhibition introduced fairgoers to traditional Swedish food and drink.
Swedish Design Moves commissioned Zetteler Films to travel to Malmö and create a series of films examining the people and practice behind six of the 11 participating design studios. Over the course of five days, we ventured from city streets to rural forests, met some seriously fascinating people, and created six short designer films and a project-summary piece offering an insight into southern Sweden’s vibrant creative scene.
In spotlighting the people and practices behind some of Malmö’s most innovative design studios, we explore what makes Sweden a hub for creativity.
