Dowel Jones’ Thimble Fantasy

Quick thought experiment. You’re a young Melbourne-based design studio starting to make waves internationally for your modern, minimalist approach to furniture, your refreshingly accessible pricing, your playful attitude and your dedication to local suppliers and materials. You’ve just created a new line of multi-coloured, stackable contemporary stools that can work in almost any modern environment. You need to take some pictures of them. Do you: 

a) Plonk them at the back of the studio and snap them with your iPhone?

b) Bring in a professional photographer to get some sexy catalogue shots?

c) Persuade artist, designer and boundary-blurring digital creative Tom Hancocks to develop ethereal 3D-composite pastel-hued environments that seem both familiar and hauntingly unreal at the same time, thus making your stools appear like alien objects deposited on earth by a mysterious otherworldly intelligence?

The design duo (Dale Hardiman and Adam Lynch) have marked the launch of their Thimble and 1/5 Thimble stools with a creative collaboration with Hancocks that showcases the two new powder-coated products in a host of oddly mesmerising settings.
