There aren’t many people who are as passionate or knowledgeable about wood as the American Hardwood Export Council (aka AHEC). For over a quarter of a century, the Council has been the international voice of the US hardwoods industry, representing hundreds of companies across North America engaged in the production and export of timber – from small family-run sawmills to major flooring makers. AHEC’s mission is to help these businesses reach new international markets, and today runs a non-profit programme to communicate the performance and aesthetic properties of hardwoods to architecture and design communities in more than 35 countries worldwide. Alongside providing technical information and networking support, AHEC’s activities include numerous highly ambitious creative collaborations and hands-on involvement with high-profile exhibitions and events, such as the London Design Festival. By forging ever-stronger connections with the global design community – significantly in Europe and the UK – AHEC aims to both support the businesses it represents and increase the global use of hardwood as a sustainable design material.
