Joseph Zeal-Henry is driven by a desire to place equity at the heart of the built environment, a mission which often takes him far beyond the stale status quo of architecture – towards music, multidisciplinary collaboration and grassroots community organising.
Whether it’s his own practice as a designer, or having run the multidisciplinary platform Sound Advice, working on cultural policy at the London Mayor’s office, and co-curating the British Pavilion at Venice 2024, he has a flair for collaboration and a keen awareness about how cultural infrastructure shapes the lives of everyday people. More recently, his efforts have taken him to Harvard University where as the 2024 ArtLab Loeb Fellow he launched SUPA System, a modular sonic sculpture that inspires new ways of thinking about communal gathering spaces.
A published writer for the likes of Tank Magazine, Dezeen, Casabella and the Architectural Review, Joseph is also a trustee of UD Music, a charity that empowers and harnesses opportunities for young people through Black music culture, an advisor to Theatrum Mundi, a board member of the Russell Maliphant Dance Company and an associate lecturer at Central Saint Martins.
WHAT WE DO FOR Joseph Zeal-Henry
Crossing paths with Joseph from attending his events for Sound Advice, we’ve had the pleasure to work directly and indirectly with him through the Greater London Authority and Venice Architecture Biennale. Not wanting to wait until chance brings us together again, we’re working closely to promote his multifaceted projects.
