The London LGBTQ+ Community Centre opened in December 2021, providing London’s LGBTQ+ community with a welcoming haven in the heart of London, a stone’s throw from Tate Modern, beside Blackfriars. The project was initially conceived in 2017 in response to successful similar centres in other cities around the world, and is intended to serve as a safe, sober, intersectional and intergenerational space – a venue for relaxing with a coffee, networking, events and accessing practical support where all LGBTQ+ people are welcome, supported, can build connections and can flourish. The centre's current premises – a former retail unit on Hopton Street, Southwark – is a pop-up space intended to demonstrate the centre’s viability and value to the community. It was designed to meet the specific needs of the community by queer architect Martha Summers (she/her), fitted out by an all-LGBTQ+ building crew, and furnished with donations from the London design community. Since opening, the centre has worked with charities and groups to deliver LGBTQ+-specific services, alongside a holistic programme of events.
Zetteler is proud to support the centre team in their mission to cultivate a more connected, belonging and thriving LGBTQ+ community in London. We were thrilled to play a role in rallying some of the most celebrated design brands and studios in the UK to furnish the centre in time for its opening in 2021.
