NewBond is what happens when the passion for materiality meets the need for longevity. Conceived and developed by the artist, fabricator and inventor Tom Lindow, NewBond offers artists and photographers a fibre-based surface with the distinctive beauty and tactility of paper but which has been engineered to provide rigidity, stability and durability. With NewBond, artists can access the material richness of paper while overcoming its fragility and transience, allowing them to create gallery-ready works on an archive-quality medium.
Tom’s breakthrough came when he was making books of oil paintings, and attempted to translate the intimacy of the page to suit the scale of the gallery wall. Finding that paper became diminished and ephemeral outside of the book, Tom set about finding a way to elevate the material so that a work on paper could confidently share space with sculpture or stretched canvas. With the support and input of museum conservators, he developed a unique method of binding paper and similar substrates to aluminium panels. With NewBond, Tom has created a pioneering alternative to conventional mediums – and thus a world of new creative possibilities for artists.
We've known Tom Lindow for over a decade as he's been at the helm of major cutting edge London studios. We're delighted to work directly with him now on his new solo venture, NewBond. Combining his experience and genius invention, this thriving business will support the artworld and artists alike.
