Founded by Sir Terence Conran in 1973, The Conran Shop has been at the heart of London’s design scene for almost half a century. Today, it brings its eclectic eye for timeless modern design to 12 stores across London, Paris, Japan and – as of 2019 – Korea, each housing a hand-picked selection of furniture, lighting, home accessories and gifts from both internationally renowned designers and exciting new talents. Products range from vintage icons to cutting-edge contemporary works – all chosen and championed for the simplicity, functionality and beauty of their design. Over the decades, The Conran Shop has evolved to reflect the changing way we live, but its passion for craftsmanship and its core belief that good design should be ‘plain, simple, useful’ have remained unchanged since the doors first opened.
The Zetteler team grew up with (and to a large degree, in) The Conran Shop, so we’re delighted to be working with The Conran Shop crew as it approaches its fifth decade at the forefront of the global design industry. We’re helping them tell the stories behind the products, share the news of events and openings, and communicate the values that underpin The Conran Shop’s role as a champion of global excellence and innovation.
We followed designer Samuel Wilkinson and The Conran Shop’s Campbell Thompson to a sun- drenched workshop in Italy to find out more about how the new Latis chair is made. Mixing craft with technology, the chair is a future collectible that marries the best of Italian making with a contemporary British flavour.
Under normal circumstances, we’d be busy sharing all the exciting projects we have lined up for Milan Design Week, and we were ready and raring to go and do just that, but the universe (and the WHO) have other plans...
Buckle up, this year’s London Design Festival looks set to be a good one. With an increasing interest in environmental and social issues, plus some very fun projects to boot, here are the exhibitions, talks and events we can wait to see this year. Only a few sleeps left!
This year’s window is one of the most complex and ambitious in Conran history. Betsy and her team have transformed the space into a cavern of moving light, collaborating with an award-winning West End lighting designer to create a rhythmic, visually enchanting spectacle of light and shade at play. We asked Betsy to share her process and shine some light on how The Conran Shop’s displays come about…
We sit down with The Conran Shop’s creative director Stephen Briars to find out more about how he’s making the 45-year-old institution relevant to millennial shopping habits, and what young makers should do if they want some prime real estate on the store’s esteemed shelves.
