Mauritius is awash with colour, from the intense greens and blues of the natural world to rainbow-hued human interventions. Camille Walala and her collaborator Julia Jomaa mined these local inspirations when creating the interiors for SALT of Palmar hotel, a groundbreaking new hotel that embraces sustainability, local culture and community. Camille emblazoned the riad-like building created by local architect Jean François Adam with bold Buren-style stripes, and colours she found on the island like peach, blues and warm yellow. We boarded a bus with Camille and Julia as they travelled round Mauritius, bringing the colour they saw on the road back to the hotel.
