Over six days in September, people from 61 countries gathered together in the digital ether for a first-of-its-kind event. Conceived by Deborah Rey-Burns and her maverick speaker agency Propela, ReDesign Business is a talks series that set out to shake up the London Design Festival by crossbreeding ideas from the design and business worlds, aiming to demonstrate the power of design thinking to solve real-world problems.
The line-up was an extraordinary 45-strong roster of visionary thinkers from both sides of the divide: designers, architects, game-changing entrepreneurs, leading financiers, futurists and more. The topics covered include hacking inclusion for business leaders, more-than-human politics, neurodiversity as a business asset, designing for happiness not profit and a host of other equally gripping subjects – delivered through online talks, Q&A sessions, panel discussions and fireside chats.
It was, it’s safe to say, a tremendous success, attracting attendees from DR Congo to Costa Rica and beyond; generating overwhelming positive responses from those who participated; and showcasing some genuinely ground-breaking thinking.
The good news is: you haven’t missed it. The full 21-hour talks programme has just been released on demand, and you can watch (or rewatch) the whole shebang for just £22.15 – a virtual bargain bucket of brilliant ideas, with something for everyone to get their teeth into.
You want a straightforward introduction to the design process? Marketer Letizia Marchetti has that covered. In the mood for a metaphysical deconstruction of time? Ted Hunt and Gemma Jones are on the case. Feel like overhauling your view of global civilisation? (And who isn’t?) Indy Johar has a road map for societal transformation. Want to look at things from a more left-field perspective? Inventor Dominic Wilcox will show you how to turn your shoes into a satnav. And, for when your brain’s beginning to creak and steam from over-expansion, there’s a 50-minute sound-and-light sleep meditation to soothe you back down to earth.
In short, it’s a vast and hugely diverse spread of delicious brain food, but it’s only available until December, so let the feasting begin.
