Deck the halls and roll out Mariah, advent is upon us and all we want for Christmas is a stocking full of beautiful Tinct bags.
If you follow us on Twitter or Instagram you might have spotted that last week we paid a visit to the irresistibly inviting Tinct workshop at Southwark’s Flat Iron Square. Having witnessed first-hand the charming charisma that clearly runs strong in their family genes, we thought we’d find out what Christmas is like for Rosie and Ben Broad, the sibling duo behind vegetable-tanned leather bag brand Tinct.
What is the meaning of Christmas in the Tinct household?
Riding the collective wave of festive merriment, surrounded by dogs, friends, family, free-flowing wine and an awkwardly over-stocked fridge of delectable treats.
When do your Christmas preparations start? Early July or December 23?
This year, what with the shop at Flat Iron Square, it’ll be a December 23 affair...
If you had to give each another one Tinct item what would it be and why?
B: I’d give Rosie a cross body in every colour. She’s already got the Aragosta, but could definitely do with the whole set…
R: Ben would get a Fieno Laptop Portfolio. For some much needed laptop padding for his much battered laptop.
Being siblings, do you still spend Christmas together or have you made new traditions?
This year, our Christmas routine has been switched up a gear following Ben’s marriage to Olive in September. This means we’ll all be descending en-masse to Olive’s parent’s house in beautiful Dorset. And by en-masse, we mean en-masse. There’ll be 22 people (from five months to 83 years old) around the table, and Ben and Olive are in charge of the cooking. Hmmm….
Your childhood Christmases together must’ve been fun, what are your fondest festive memories?
They were. Our mum used to go to extraordinary lengths to keep the myth of Father Christmas alive. One year, alongside set dressing the mysteriously devoured mince-pies and mulled wine, she stomped through the house in Dad’s wellies, covered in ash, to create authentic Santa footprints from the fireplace.
Biggest Christmas disaster to date?
The time that we forgot to buy a Turkey. Everyone else had assumed that someone else had done the honours. When it came to Christmas Eve we realised our error, and everywhere had sold out. So, it was roast chickens all round, which worked just as well.
Favourite thing about Christmas?
The luxury of time and the social acceptability of morning champagne!
