Camille Walala x Floor Story

Known for imprinting her bold brand of graphic art onto the walls, floors and now barges of London and beyond, Camille Walala has collaborated with Floor Story to produce a collection of statement rugs, allowing us to inject a hit of brave colour and geometric magic into our homes!

Following the success of her public installations, Camille has been the artist of choice for a portfolio of clients and collaborators the world over, including Facebook, Katy Perry, New Era and XOXO. Constantly on the hunt for new surfaces and more challenging and dynamic mediums, Camille sought out Simon, founder of Floor Story, at last year’s designjunction and the pair kicked-off a conversation that would be the catalyst for what we are admiring today, a beautifully manufactured range of four unmistakably Camille Walala-designed rugs.

“It’s an amazing process to see my designs crafted into rugs. The process isn’t actually that different from my other work, but it’s refreshing to create in new materials. Working from existing wall prints, I experimented with scale and size, before playing with hundreds of wool poms to get the colour down. This was a load of fun and satisfying beyond belief.” says Camille.

A welcome antidote to the Scandinavian minimalism that has dominated contemporary interior design in recent years, Camille’s collaboration with Floor Story sees her rug designs breathe energy into any space, while maintaining a certain innate affinity with architecture due to the definitive bold lines and geometric precision that is synonymous with all of Camille’s creations.

The collection features two kilim styles – ‘Fixed’ and ‘Buildings Come True’ – and the heavyweight hand-tufted ‘Aria’. To be revealed at designjunction, the final rug is an exquisite hand-knotted style. All are made from 100% pure wool and crafted by India’s finest rug makers.

Not her first foray into the world of interiors, if you’ve already got your hands on Camille’s cushion and home accessory designs for Aria (the inspiration for the name of one of the new rugs) you can now create a comprehensive Walala scheme for your favourite room!
