“The Dutch design scene has a rebellious and unorthodox attitude,” says Dutch design collective Form & Seek. “Often this results in the development of innovative materials, processes and objects which take a more adventurous and experimental approach, leading to unique and memorable work.”
The Netherlands has a vibrant design scene. With Design Academy Eindhoven being one of the most celebrated design schools in the world, and acclaimed talents such as Hella Jongerius, Rem Koolhaas, Aldo Bakker, Maarten Baas and Wieki Somers all originating from the country, the Netherlands has long been an epicentre of design.
It is no surprise then that for the last three years, London Design Fair has been campaigning for the Netherlands to take its place alongside its fellow nations and establish a presence at the fair. Now, for the first time ever, Dutch design will receive its showcase at London Design Fair 2017.
Form & Seek at the London Design Fair 2016
London Design Fair is a four-day industry event, hosted during London Design Festival, that brings together 500 exhibitors from 28 countries in the form of international country pavilions, stands showcasing the work of both emerging and established designers, and exhibitions. Dutch Stuff, the Netherland’s 2017 offering, will take over a 600 sq m gallery space at top of the Old Truman Brewery in east London.
Five individuals and collectives will be tasked with curating a dedicated area within the space, presenting their handpicked selection of Dutch designers and products. Each space will be designed to encourage visitors to contemplate and interact with the objects on show.
The five organisations chosen to curate Dutch Stuff include design collective Form & Seek, design label Vij5, and boundary-pushing collaborative design group Dutch Invertuals. Keep your eyes peeled for more updates!
Dutch Stuff will feature as part of the London Design Fair, taking place between 21 and 24 September.
