To cut a long story short, the Z List was our online shop. Not exactly a standard avenue for a PR business, admittedly, but then we never really paid much attention in PR school. We set up the Z List in 2016 for several reasons…
To champion those gifted designers and makers of amazing things who aren’t necessarily on our client list.
To support those makers both by widening their audience and bringing them money (using the traditional ‘cash for stuff’ model that has proven so popular for global civilisation).
To raise funds for the charitable causes and social enterprises that we believe in.
We curated the product selection, handled sales and delivery and ensured that the proceeds of every sale are split fairly: 70% to the maker, 20% to cover the cost of running the site, and 10% to the current charity in our rolling programme.
However, despite being equipped with heaps of enthusiasm and optimism it’s become clear just how much work is required in running an online shop (we weren’t listening in business school either) and are sad to have come to the conclusion that it’s no longer a manageable endeavor.
The metaphorical doors to the Z List closed on 31 October. However, our passion for supporting incredible creatives and life-changing charities hasn’t gone anywhere. We’re always happy to shine a light on humans doing incredible things so please continue to share your suggestions with us.
We’d like to say a huge thank you to all the designers who jumped on board with the Z List, it’s been a complete pleasure.
If you haven’t met all of our makers we urge you to make sure you’re following them and keeping up with their every move…
