Between 2016 and 2017 the Trussell Trust, the UK’s largest network of food banks, handed out 1.2m food parcels to those in need. This will be the ninth year in a row that demand has risen.
Hackney Foodbank, one of the food banks run by the Trussell Trust, is in desperate need of donations. As the Z-list’s current charity, last week we received a heartbreaking message from the food bank. It simply read: “We are really struggling to fill our shelves due to the increasing numbers of people in a food crisis.”
Data shows that December is especially difficult for those experiencing financial hardship. In 2016, UK food banks reported a 47 per cent increase in three-day emergency food supplies in December compared to the rest of the year.
So how can you help?
Donate money!
Even the smallest of donations go a long way. You can donate directly to the Hackney Foodbank or indirectly via your Christmas shopping on the Z List.
