HAND-drawn: the portable paper-topped table

Every so often, someone makes something that stops the Zetteler office in its tracks and has us all craning over a computer screen, muttering ‘Oooh!’ in hushed excitement. Today, the someone is northern design newcomer Hand Studio and that something is the HAND01 table.

As far as design objects go, tables aren’t really something that gets reinvented very often. You can fiddle with the materials and measurements, of course, but the basic ‘flat top + sturdy legs’ equation is rarely recalibrated. The guys at Hand, however, have taken that tried and trusted formula and done something different.

HAND 01 is a portable modular table that has been functionally designed for creatives. It’s available in five sizes, made from lightweight CNC-routed birch ply, comes in its own box, can be rapidly and easily assembled anywhere, and – here’s the jazzy bit – is topped with refillable stacks of Colorplan paper from G . F Smith.

At long last, those of us who spent our childhoods being told off for drawing on the table have been vindicated.

The Hand 01 is just about the best tool for creative collaborations we can think of. Wherever you are in the world, whenever inspiration strikes, you can whip out and slot together your HAND01 (no tools required), and voilà: you have a group brainstorming space, sketching station, or simply a downright awesome piece of statement furniture.
