LDF 2016: Design Undefined opens at Clerkenwell London
The installations are complete, the doors are open and Clerkenwell London is almost unrecognisable thanks to the awe-inspiring transformations of The Keep, basement gallery, Fashion Room and Vinyl Lounge at the hands of Design Undefined’s incredible collective of exhibitors.
Visitors looking for an escape from the crowds of LDF can explore Yinka Ilori’s joy-inducing A Swimming Pool of Dreams installation of vibrant floor tiles and upcycled furniture in the basement gallery, or get lost in a new corner of Walala land via Camille Walala’s highly anticipated makeover of Clerkenwell London’s Vinyl Lounge.
Just when you thought you couldn’t get anymore Walala in your life, be sure to check out graphic design agency (and new Zetteler client) Studio Makgill’s furniture designs, adorned with Camille’s personal brand of decorative design. Check out Studio Makgill’s new colour range for the WW Chair at designjunction.
Head over to the Fashion Room to check out London’s most glamorous parquet floor and Adam Guy Blencowe and Marine Duroselle’s debut collaboration, which includes a collection of rugs designed by graphic designer Marine and produced using Adam’s groundbreaking Fuzzy Logic.
Turner Prize-winning architecture collective Assemble has taken over Clerkenwell London’s ground-floor platform to exhibit pieces from Granby Workshop, including home and interiors products, hand-made using experimental processes and materials from the redevelopment of Liverpool’s derelict Granby Street neighbourhood. Head to the Wine Keep to watch film footage of the ongoing restoration works.
Fans of craftsmanship in contemporary industrial design should head straight to The Keep, where industrial designer extraordinaire Samuel Wilkinson is debuting his new line of chairs, cleverly produced using steam-bent wood. Wasting nothing, offcuts from the manufacture of the chairs make up a “cage” of suspended wooden pieces that surrounds the collection.
Check out the photos below to see how the second edition of Design Undefined has come together and head down to Clerkenwell London during LDF to explore the exhibition in full.
