Roll up, roll up, Milan Design Week has arrived! We know that military-grade-precision-planned schedule you’ve got is packed tight, and we know you’ve got an endless list of wonders to see in and around the sun-doused city, but Dowel Jones’ is definitely not to be missed.
The doors to Local Milan opened yesterday (the venue — a medieval church — warrants a visit all by itself) and, surrounded by 8,000 bricks and the enticing scents of Aesop, Dowel Jones is among the showcase of 11 hand-picked studios and individuals representing the bed of contemporary Australian design. This is not the first time the brand’s founders Dale Hardiman and Adam Lynch have exhibited their work in Milan, but it is the first time they’ve launched a completed collection during the design week.
In addition to their original Half Hurdle and Full Hurdle Chairs, the duo are expanding the collection with three new additions – the Half High Hurdle Chair, Full High Hurdle Chair and Half Hurdle Bench. They will be displaying these alongside Thimble – their stackable indoor/outdoor stools introduced earlier this year – the playfully chunky tubular-steel stool Sir Burly, and his new, taller companion: Sir Burly High.
Local Milan is showing at the Oratorio della Passione, Basilica di Sant’Ambrogio on 4–9 April. Don’t miss this brilliant opportunity to see the best of Australian design just a little bit closer to home.
