Even if you have never heard of it you will certainly recognise Johnston type, the typeface used throughout Transport for London’s stations, signage, trains and buses for 100 years. Often described as London’s handwriting, Johnston type was designed by Edward Johnston in 1916 and has become synonymous with London’s iconic transport infrastructure. Now, marking the centennial of its use across London, Transport for London has collaborated with global type specialists Monotype to revive London’s most famous font.
