More Dutch Stuff at London Design Fair

Known for an experimental approach, razor-sharp thinking and a penchant for humour, Dutch design has long been a firm fixture in the global design scene. Last year a showcase of the new generation of Dutch talent launched at London Design Fair, exhibiting a mind-blowing 60 collectives, studios and independent designers that are taking this legacy to new places. This year, Dutch Stuff is back at the Old Truman Brewery in east London for another round of thoughtful and provocative work.

Whereas last year’s show focused on the huge breadth of Dutch design talent, this year is a pared-back selection, allowing more breathing spaces for individual pieces. The vibe will be similarly eclectic and multi-disciplinary, with designers presenting furniture, lighting, textiles, ceramics and category-defying sculptural objects and installations from emerging talents and internationally famed stars to London Design Fairs 28,000 visitors.

This year’s highlights include Eindhoven’s Studio Jeroen Wand (known for its raw and unpolished pieces that challenge conventions of beauty); experimental talent Martijn Rigters, whose past projects have involved making surface patterns from carbonised hair in collaboration with Fabio Hendry; Alissa+Nienke, whose innovative, three-dimensional wallpaper Mirabilia responds to movements of the air around it; and Maria Tyakina Studio and her otherworldly objects that reflect on the lack of tactility in the digital era.

Other designers involved in 2018’s edition of Dutch Stuff include Studio Johan Viladrich, Boris de Beijer, Lennart Lauren, Systemises, Creative Chef, forever studio, Bart Joachim, VANTOT, Earnest Studio, REM Atelier, Studio Simone Post, Studio Laurids Gallée, Atelier van Middendorp Studio and Thier&van Daalen. With such a variety of fresh ideas and innovative ways of making, Dutch Stuff is brain food you can’t afford to miss.
