Collect 2017 is open! Drop everything and run to this year’s elegant venue (Saatchi Gallery) to explore the jaw-dropping talents and groundbreaking creative visions that make the show so inspiring and so important.
Now boasting an extended run of five days (2 - 6 February), The Crafts Council’s 13th annual showcase of contemporary objects is packed full of ceramics, glass, jewellery, wood, metal and textiles from established and emerging designer, makers and artists, represented by 37 galleries around the world.
Curved Twist
Highlights from this year’s offering include Showtime, an exhibition highlighting the diverse history of Crafts Council exhibitions, and Collect Spotlight, a new platform where selected galleries showcase boundary-breaking new work. However, the thing that has had us salivating for months is the promise of an expanded Collect Open showcase curated by renowned designer and maker Faye Toogood.
Curved Twist
Exhibiting alongside a brilliant selection of recognised and up-and-coming creative talents, Kia Utzon-Frank and Fay McCaul were chosen by Faye to be part of Collect Open and are debuting a unique installation that demonstrates the incredible way they have fused their individual innovative design to build on the synergy of invention and aesthetics. The installation sees London-based textile designer Fay’s unique knitted material applied to Kia’s patented Kuf twist technology to create Curved Twist.

We were lucky enough to get the Zetteler Films camera round to Fay’s beautiful studio the other week, where she and Kia shared the story of how their collaboration came about and offered an insight into the process of designing and building Curved Twist. Watch the film here.
