With hands-on workshops in everything from scents and ceramics to bike-bag making, a ‘henge’, and a pop-up skate zone, Design District’s LDF programme (and one-year anniversary celebration) is set to be one of the most eclectic and engaging of this year’s festival. Studio doors will be flung open to the public, inviting visitors to venture behind the scenes of some of London’s most exciting creative enterprises – from recycled trainer designer Helen Kirkum and cult cycling-accessory brand Wizard Works to ceramic alchemist Made by Manos and scent specialist Homework.
Meanwhile, Bureau Talks presents a trio of keynote talks from leading design-industry figures including Tom Dixon, Stanton Williams Architects and LSI Stone unveil a large-scale sculptural pavilion made from 150-million-year-old Jurassic limestone, and Creative Quests leads a 12-stop time-themed creativity trail around Greenwich Peninsula.
Design District Creates runs from 19–25 September 2022, with a district-wide birthday party on Wednesday 21st.

Change Making presents key projects from Pearson Lloyd's design story, exploring the relationship between design and the changing world. Image courtesy of Pearson Lloyd.
Since Luke Pearson and Tom Lloyd founded their practice in 1997, the world – and with it, the design landscape – has transformed. Throughout that time, Pearson Lloyd has responded to, preempted, and helped drive change. Their LDF exhibition Change Making at Yorkton Workshops uses 25 years of Pearson Lloyd design to explore the ways in which how and what we design – and the materials we use – have evolved in the face of the complex and increasingly urgent challenges faced by people and planet.
As well as a fantastic opportunity to get an in-depth insight into some of the key projects that have turned Pearson Lloyd into one of the UK’s leading industrial-design studios – from rethinking A&E departments to redefining the workspace – Change Making is an invitation to consider the role and responsibility of design in a changing world.
Change Making is at Yorkton Workshops in Hackney from 10am–6pm on 19–25 September.
Making a living from creating has always been tough, but with a pandemic and a cost-of-living crisis, now is a particularly difficult time. Yet where there's a challenge, there's an opportunity. This session is packed with lessons, advice and tips from creatives, for creatives. Featuring a panel hosted by Courier’s lifestyle editor Bre Graham, designer Andu Masebo, artist and designer Clara Chu and Marcus Engman, CCO of Ingka Group (IKEA).
