Big Steam Print at Ditchling Museum of Art + Craft

If you’re heading down to Ditchling Museum of Art and Craft this weekend you might just be lucky enough to run into a handful of creative giants that includes Angie Lewin, Rob Ryan and Anthony Burrill. Granting you the perfect opportunity to leave the confines of digital production behind for a day, Ditchling Village Fair will provide an idyllic setting for these artistic masterminds to create prints on scales they’ve never been able to work at before, all made possible by the museum’s captivating vintage steam roller.

Just one part of the awesome Village of Type programme of events sponsored by G . F Smith, Saturday's Big Steam Print will unveil the majestic processes behind printing that are usually hidden away in sheds and workshops. Having previously welcomed print aficionados such as Mark Hearld and Jonny Hannah, Big Steam Print, initiated by a crowdfunding project via Art Happens, has already hosted inspiring events at three venues, including London Transport Museum Acton Depot and The Level in Brighton. And don’t worry, the professionals don’t get to hog all the fun, everyone from students to grandparents are invited to throw themselves into a hazy fog of steam and ink!

If the one day steam print extravaganza isn’t quite enough for you, don’t forget that you can visit the Big Steam Print exhibition at Phoenix Gallery in Brighton from 6-21 August to check out all the prints that survive being pummelled into the tarmac by a vintage steam roller!
